Madame Web star says new Sony film is a ‘powerhouse of badass females’

In a recent interview, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney teases a “badass female” line-up for the new Madame Web movie from Sony

Back in 2019, we learned that Sony and Marvel were giving another Spider-Man character their own movie. That movie is Madame Web.

Currently, we know the official cast members are: Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb (a.k.a. Madame Web), Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon (Spider-Girl), Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin (Spider-Woman), Emma Roberts as Mary Parker (mother of Peter Parker), and Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter (Arachne/Madame Web). This is going to be an ensemble project showcasing the spider-women of the Spider-Man universe.

While little is still known about the upcoming movie, star Sydney Sweeney has recently shared some insights into what is to be expected in the film.

What to expect from Madame Web

In an interview with Total Film magazine (H/T: Games Radar), Sydney Sweeney shared her excitement for the upcoming female-led action film saying:

"“I can’t wait to be able to be next to the girls that I filmed with, Dakota and Isabela, and Celeste. We had so much fun together. And I’m really excited that it’s just gonna be a powerhouse of badass females for the world to see.”"

She also shared her admiration for superhero films, mentioning how they have been a part of her life since she was a kid and having fond memories of watching the Avengers films countless times with her family. Having a part in this film means a lot to the actress and could open more doors for her in the ever-expanding Marvel Sony universe and perhaps even open doors into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

From Euphoria to Marvel

Sydney Sweeney rose to fame with her role as Cassie on the HBO hit original series Euphoria where she showcased her acting chops in a very dramatic role and really gave her all, receiving many praises from fans and critics alike. Now taking on a bigger and very different role in a superhero film, swinging into the ever-growing movie universe of Sony’s corner of Marvel characters, we can expect to see her range as an actress.

The Madame Web film seems promising although Sony is doing its best to keep plot details on lock, some set photos have been leaked and rumors are already circulating creating potential spoilers as to what we can expect from Sony this time around and who or what is the threat to our spider-women.

Madame Web is released in movie theaters on February 16, 2024.
