The Flash normally airs new episodes on The CW on Wednesday nights, but will it air one on the network this week?

The Flash has been a staple of The CW network for almost 10 years. It premiered on TV screens in 2014 as the second ever show of the Arrowverse, coming just two years after originator Arrow premiered on the same network.

It has run for nine seasons, officially earning its place in history as the longest-running Arrowverse series and the second-longest-running superhero show of all time (just one season short of The CW’s Smallville).

The show spent most of its run airing new episodes on Tuesday nights, but as of its eighth season, it was moved to Wednesday nights. That’s where season 9 has been airing over the past few months.

The ninth season has seen Barry Allen take on an old friend, as the Negative Speed Force used Eddie Thawne as its avatar to take him down. The villains ultimately failed and Team Flash won the war for Central City. But with that battle over, will there be more adventures for The Flash?

Is The Flash new tonight, May 31?

Unfortunately, The Flash won’t air a new episode tonight. Last week’s episode was the season 9 finale, but it was also the series finale. Yes, that means the legendary TV series has now come to an end.

The end of The Flash also sadly means the end of the Arrowverse. Over the past year, changes in direction at both Warner Bros. Discovery and The CW have resulted in the cancellations of BatwomanDC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and DC’s Stargirl, while the decision to end The Flash was also made, bringing about an end of The CW’s iconic shared universe of superheroes.

The Flash series finale saw Barry Allen and his team unite to take on the Negative Speed Force (which was using the resurrected Eddie Thawne as its avatar). That battle also saw former big bads Reverse-Flash, Zoom, Savitar, and Godspeed return in an attempt to take The Flash down once and for all. In the end, they failed again and Team Flash stood tall.

Barry and Iris were able to kickstart a new era with the birth of their daughter Nora and all was safe in Central City once more.

Thank you, Flash, for nine wonderful years.
