Loki season 1 debuted on Disney Plus in June 2021 and many fans hoped Loki season 2 would also arrive in June, however, that’s not the case.

Summer was originally intended to be a major season for Marvel fans with Marvel Studios expected to not only have a major theatrical release with The Marvels but with several new series expected to arrive on Disney Plus including Loki season 2.

Sadly, a lot has changed since 2023 began with The Marvels being bumped back to November in a move that will put more space between it and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which released in May. And The Marvels weren’t the only Marvel project that has been bumped from its summer slot and moved to the fall.

We’re referring to Loki season 2 which was slated to arrive this summer but has since been pushed back to later in the year as part of an ongoing strategy shift at Marvel Studios and Disney. Due to this change, Loki won’t be kicking off a new season in June as fans had anticipated and will instead be delayed by a few months.

Loki season 2 release date on Disney Plus

Although Marvel Studios has promoted the second season of Loki as arriving on Disney Plus during Summer 2023, the studio has since shifted the show’s release window from summer to fall. Instead of season 2 debuting in the summer months as fans had been hoping, it has been confirmed Loki season 2 will premiere on October 6, 2023.

The move to release the new season of Loki on Oct. 6 is an interesting one for a number of reasons.

First, the shift to October means the show is arriving more than two years after the previous season and will not meet its summer release. An Oct. 6 premiere date also means the show’s season finale could release on the same day The Marvels opens in theaters which would be an interesting choice given we haven’t seen such an overlap with Marvel releases.

What’s most notable, though, is that Oct. 6 is a Friday which means we should finally be reclaiming Marvel Fridays with Disney Plus opting to release new episodes on Friday instead of Wednesday.
