The game will feature a dark story

We already knew Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be darker than previous titles in Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe. However, we now have more information as to how will that be accomplished. According to Bryan Intihar, the game’s antagonists are key to its darker themes:

"“Whether it’s Kraven – which we confirmed in the beginning of the sequence – and obviously, we showed Venom when we first announced the game and now with the Symbiote and Pete being bonded with the Symbiote, there’s naturally going to be some darker elements to the story. That’s just being respectful to those characters, and what they bring to the overall experience.”"

Not only that, but the symbiote itself will play a huge and important role in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by deeply impacting Peter Parker’s life. The wall-crawler will develop some sort of addiction when bonded to it, as revealed by Ryan Smith:

"It’s not something we want to make fun of. (…) It’s about really playing into those themes of addiction, how that can impact someone’s personality, impact the people around them, and you’re going to see that it’s not just how it’s impacting Peter on his own, but also those close to him. You’re going to see that play out throughout the game."

The gameplay reveal featured a pretty angry Peter Parker who didn’t have the same level of care when saving citizens as he used to. Miles knows something is wrong with his mentor, and I can’t shake the feeling they will eventually fight each other due to Peter’s addiction. We don’t know how deep this rabbit hole goes, but according to Yuri Lowenthal, the voice and actor for Peter, we haven’t seen anything yet.
