The upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is rumored to have parted ways with a key figure from the film.

Amidst the recent controversy of the titular antagonists’ performer as Kang the Conqueror and the underperformance of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a new rumor has been making the rounds that Jeff Loveness who was penning the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

The rumor came from a scooper, Jeff Sneider, via a tweet post on social media. This apparently happened before the current 2023 WGA Strike.

At the time of Quantumania’s release, it has scored certified rotten for critics at 46% and scored 83% with audiences though grossed $476 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget. Quantumania grossed significantly lower than the original 2015 film at $519.3 M and its 2018 sequel at $622.7 M.

In the motion picture industry, a film’s production budget is comparable to a film’s marketing budget which determines whether there is great or poor turnout at the box office. A movie’s budget within marketing is usually unrevealed to the public. Clearly, Loveness’ work on the project has affected its outcome at the box office.

While Peyton Reed directed the film, it is unlikely he will land in “movie jail” due to allowing Marvel Studios to earn a profit in past entries. For Loveness, a myriad of things could happen to the Rick and Morty screenwriter. It could lead to a strained relationship between the studio and the writer, resulting in fewer future projects or being reassigned to a different project of lower risk or removed entirely in this case.

If the rumors are true and Loveness has been dropped from The Kang Dynasty then expect this project to experience delays due to the 2023 WGA Strike which most recently affected Blade and Thunderbolts.

So far, we are uncertain of the status of the film and whether or not he even started the title page. While it is too early to say who may replace Loveness, one thing is clear is that Marvel Studios have shifted their scripting strategy according to Sneider. They are no longer going for newbies and are employing “heavy hitters.”
