8. The Amazing Spider-Man

  • Release Year: 2012
  • Director: Marc Webb
  • Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Irrfan Khan

The Amazing Spider-Man is Marc Webb’s first Spider-Man movie. The film is a reboot of Sam Raimi’s trilogy, and it’s also Andrew Garfield’s first movie as Peter Parker after replacing Tobey Maguire.

In The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter discovers his abilities after being bitten by a genetically-altered spider and delves into the mystery surrounding his parents’ disappearance. He uncovers a conspiracy involving Oscorp Industries and its CEO, Dr. Curt Connors, who transforms into the monstrous Lizard after an experiment goes wrong. Peter tries to stop Lizard from unleashing a virus on the city.

The Amazing Spider-Man is so good! It’s not up to the quality of some of the more recent Spider-Man movies, but the story is excellent. Garfield and Stone make a great Peter and Gwen, as well. It’s a shame they were let down by the second Amazing Spider-Man movie.

So far, we’ve seen four different Spider-Man origin stories, and I quite like this one. It might not be the best, but I enjoyed the way they treated the mystery of Peter’s missing parents.

Up next is one of the most recent Spider-Man movies!
