5. Spider-Man: Homecoming

  • Release Year: 2017
  • Director:
  • Cast: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is Tom Holland’s first Spider-Man movie, and it’s a great movie! After Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies, Homecoming feels refreshing. Spider-Man is younger, and tonally, the movie feels fresh, like it can take on the world, much like a younger Peter Parker is doing in Homecoming.

In the movie, Peter tries to come to terms with his newfound powers and responsibility as Spider-Man. Peter tries to take down an arms dealer and villain, the Vulture, played by Michael Keaton.

Keaton also delivers a chilling and convincing performance as Vulture, the villain. We also get a great Robert Downey Jr. cameo as Tony Stark/Iron Man. The chemistry between Holland and Zendaya, who plays MJ, is also noteworthy, adding a layer of complexity to Peter’s high school relationships.

The movie explores Peter’s struggles to balance his responsibilities as a high school student and a superhero. It’s just different in that way than the other Spider-Man movies. I really liked Homecoming, and there’s no doubt it’s one of the best Spider-Man movies we’ve seen so far.
