American Born Chinese is one of the best new shows on TV right now. The series premiered on Disney+ on May 24, 2023, and it’s a must-watch. Everyone is asking about American Born Chinese season 2.

Seriously, it’s my favorite Disney+ series so far. It’s better than The Mandalorian and pretty much any of the Marvel or Star Wars shows on the streaming service right now.

After finishing the series, there are some big questions fans are asking. We’re going to do our best to answer those questions and share the most recent news and information about American Born Chinese season 2.

Is American Born Chinese season 2 happening?

Right now, American Born Chinese season 2 is not in the works on Disney+. The series has not been renewed for a second season yet, but that’s not necessarily a big deal at this point.

It’s still very early in the process, although we have seen Disney order multiple seasons. Things are looking promising for American Born Chinese. Overall, ratings and reviews have been excellent, and it seems like people are watching the series. Obviously, it’d sure help if more people watched to signal to Disney that this show is a hit and it needs more episodes, so spread the word to friends and family about American Born Chinese. I need to see season 2 as soon as possible!

Did Disney announce the American Born Chinese season 2 release?

So far, American Born Chinese season 2 does not have a release date. We still need Disney to confirm season 2 and then we can worry about the release date.

Things are a bit tumultuous right now in the TV industry. The AMPTP is not offering a deal that the WGA can accept, so the writers’s strike is still happening. It’s not showing signs of slowing down, so until it’s over, we have to assume that work will not be started on American Born Chinese season 2.

That could delay things for quite a while, but it looks like this show is a shorter production than other Disney+ shows, so we might not have to wait quite as long for season 2.

Production on the series lasted five months from February-July 2022. Then, we waited about 10 months until the season was released on Disney+. It’s possible that if things get rolling soon on American Born Chinese season 2, we could see the new season by the end of 2024.

That’s our release prediction for American Born Chinese season 2 right now! We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on all the latest with American Born Chinese season 2.

Release Prediction: Summer/Fall 2024

Is American Born Chinese an Everything Everywhere All at Once reunion?

Well, not purposefully! Everything Everywhere All At Once had not been released by the time production started on American Born Chinese, but it does include many of the cast members.

Michelle Yeoh stars Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, in the series, while Ke Huy Quan also stars as Jamie Yao, an actor who played the sitcom character Freddy Wong in Beyond Repair, a fictional TV series. Stephanie Hsu also plays a role in the series as Shiji Niangniang.

Is American Born Chinese based on a book?

Yes, well, two actually! The Disney+ series is based on the comic book of the same name by Gene Luen Yang. The comic book and the series are inspired by Journey to the West, written by Wu Cheng’en and published in the 16th century.

The series was developed by Kelvin Yu. Destin Daniel Cretton, Asher Goldstein, Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, Erin O’Malley, and Gene Luen Yang are the executive producers of the series.

How many American Born Chinese episodes are there?

In the first season of American Born Chinese, there are eight episodes. We have to anticipate there will be eight episodes in the series in season 2, as well.

All eight episodes were released on May 24, 2023. We’ve seen Disney do this a lot more often. It’s even experimenting with releasing all episodes of a Marvel show with Echo, which drops later this year.

We have to imagine that American Born Chinese season 2 will be released at one time like the first season.

American Born Chinese ending: Who is the Fourth Scroll?

Spoilers ahead for American Born Chinese season 1! At the end of the first season, Jin and Wei-Chin enlist the help of Anuj to draw out the Bull Demon at the soccer game/talent show during the solstice. An epic battle takes place, but the Bull Demon plants the staff into the field, which is going to destroy the Earth and Heaven.

Thankfully, Jin sacrifices himself to save the worlds. He is the Fourth Scroll, and he puts off the destruction until Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, reclaims his staff and defeats the Bull Demon, saving the day.

It looks like everything is looking up for Jin, who appears to be starting a relationship with Amelia at the end of the season. But, when he arrives home, Jin finds out that  Princess Iron Fan (Poppy Liu) has kidnapped Jin’s parents!

And, that appears to be where things are headed in season 2. Jin is on the path now!

That’s all we know about American Born Chinese season 2 so far! We’ll share more information about the new season when we find out.
