James Gunn clarifies statements from author Stephen King during the advanced The Flash screening.
Stephen King, a legendary author synonymous with horror, was invited to an advanced screening of The Flash that was shown at CinemaCon in April. Movieweb broke this scoop about King, who had been indifferent to superhero movies, sharing his thoughts on the live-action picture of The Flash.
Prolific scriptwriter, filmmaker, and studio executive James Gunn, currently in charge of DC Studios, confirmed King’s response on Twitter’s social media site.
The author wrote: “I got an advanced screening of THE FLASH today. As a rule, I don’t care a lot for superhero movies, but this one is special. It’s heartfelt, funny, and eye-popping.”
What were other public figures’ opinions on The Flash?
King was not the only public figure that praised the movie headlined by Ezra Miller, aside from Gunn who called the film “Fantastic” during his showcase of DC’s slate back on Jan. 31, Tom Cruise gave his take on the film which he even “cold-called” the flick’s director, Andy Muschietti, about to give his stance on it.
The fact that an iconic author of literature’s best-selling novels gave positive reviews and Hollywood’s most dedicated and celebrated actors deemed this almost sure-fire that this movie will have a favorable majority reception, at least from critics. Though as the saying usually goes “Money talks, b******* walks”.
That means whether or not it’s received well by critics, the trades, gatekeepers or public figures in the industry, sales at the box office and distribution via streaming will determine whether the pic is king or pawn.
