The latest Superman: Legacy updates reveal James Gunn has narrowed his list down to three actors in the running to play the next Man of Steel.
From the moment it was announced that DC would not be bringing Henry Cavill back to play Superman in the new DC Universe, fans have been speculating over who James Gunn and Peter Safran might tap to play the next Man of Steel.
In the time since Superman: Legacy was first announced as being in development, there has been a lot of speculation about the type of actor DC was looking for including the age in which they were hoping to cast. There has also been a slew of actor names tossed around on the internet from both fans and insiders, with a diverse group of A-list actors connected to the film.
Due to the writers’ strike, it was unclear whether DC would proceed with the casting process; however, it appears not only has casting been underway for the role of Clark Kent, but Gunn and company are reported to have narrowed the field down to three truly amazing actors!
Who is playing the next Superman?
After months of reviewing audition tapes, James Gunn and Peter Safran are rumored to have three actors in the running for the role of Superman: Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Tom Brittney. This suggests that one of the three actors will be tapped to play the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy and join an elite group of actors who have played DC’s iconic hero.
As reported by Deadline, Gunn and Safran are expected to meet with Hoult, Corenswet, and Brittney sometime close to June 18 for in-person tests after making it through to the final rounds of the casting process.
Unsurprisingly, all three actors are within the age range that DC was rumored to be eyeing which was an actor in their late 20s to early 30s as Hoult is 33, Corenswet 29, and Brittney 32. The trio are all also over six feet tall and defintely look the part of Clark Kent.
Ironically, Hoult and Brittney are both from the UK, a similarity they share with Henry Cavill meaning there is a strong chance Superman will once again be played by an English actor in the next iteration of the DC Universe.
