11. Pinocchio

Disney’s live-action and CGI retelling of the classic tale of Pinocchio captures the essence of the original story but brings the tale to life in a new and unexpected way. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto, the woodcarver who creates Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) and treats him as his own son.

The casting is superb, and Hanks delivers a heartwarming performance that brings depth and humanity to the character. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s portrayal of Jiminy Cricket is another highlight of the film. As Pinocchio’s guide and conscience, Jiminy serves as a moral compass for the wooden puppet on his journey to becoming a real boy. Gordon-Levitt’s performance is both charming and wise, and his chemistry with Ainsworth is a standout.

Cynthia Erivo’s Blue Fairy is a stunning addition to the film. Her ethereal appearance and voice bring a sense of wonder and magic to the story. She is a pivotal character in Pinocchio’s transformation, and Erivo’s performance is nothing short of enchanting especially her rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star” will give you chills.

While the film wasn’t quite the breakout hit that Disney might have hoped, it’s Pinocchio was one of Disney’s most successful live-action adaptations of an animated character.
