The latest Superman: Legacy updates reveal James Gunn has narrowed the field of actresses for Lois Lane down to three stunning selections!

As Superman: Legacy aims to take flight in 2025, James Gunn and Peter Safran have been hard at work looking to find the perfect actor to suit up as the next Man of Steel. With Superman set to play a key role in the new DC Universe the pair are looking to establish, the casting of the iconic hero could prove to be make or break for DC’s new heads.

After months of looking at audition tapes, Gunn and Safran have narrowed their list of candidates down to three actors: Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Tom Brittney. The trio is expected to go before the DC brass in the near future for in-person screen tests as DC looks to lock down its Superman.

Of course, you can’t have Superman without Lois Lane so it should come with little surprise that Gunn and Safran have also been hard at work in their search for the perfect actress to play opposite the Man of Steel.

Who is playing the next Lois Lane?

Following a monthlong search reviewing audition tapes and potential candidates for the role of Lois Lane, Peter Safran and James Gunn are reported to have three actresses in the running for the role of Lois Lane: Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, and Phoebe Dynevor. This seems to hint that one of these three amazing actresses will be the next actress to take on one of DC’s most iconic characters and play a major role in the new Superman: Legacy film.

According to Deadline, Mackey, Brosnahan, and Dynevor are expected to meet with the heads of DC for in-person screen tests around June 18, which is when the studio heads will also be meeting with Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Tom Brittney about the role of Superman.

It’s unknown how the process will work, but we’d expect DC will likely look to have the six candidates do some chemistry tests given how crucial it will be for those playing Superman and Lois to capture the characters’ unmatched dynamic.

Mackey (27) and Dynevor (28) are both younger than all three actors in the mix for Superman, while Brosnahan (32) is the same age as Brittney and one year younger than Hoult (33). Considering Lois and Clark are often around the same age as one another in the comics, it makes sense that the actors in the race for both roles are all within the same age range.

With the in-person screen tests coming in June, there is a possibility we could get the casting announcement this summer with many wondering if DC might drop the Superman: Legacy casting news during San Diego Comic-Con in July.
