2. Insidious: Chapter 2

Released in 2013, Insidious: Chapter 2 continues to follow the Lambert family, picking up right where the first movie ends. As Josh and Renai try to deal with Elise’s death, they also start experiencing unexplained, paranormal happenings in their home once more. The haunting is far from over, but this time around, the evil entities are after Josh.

The wonderful director-writer team of James Wan and Leigh Whannell return for Insidious: Chapter 2, and because of that, it’s a really strong installment in the franchise. I was very impressed the first time I saw this movie in theaters, especially after seeing so many horror movie sequels pale in comparison compared to the originals. Like the first Insidious, the second film follows a similar pattern of suspense and does a great job of setting the tone.

There are several unexpected moments in Insidious: Chapter 2, including plot twists that expand on the story and the mythology we learned about in the first film. There are also effective jump scares — though critics might say there are too many — and entertaining climactic moments.

Insidious: Chapter 2 was another box office hit, and it was no surprise when a third movie in the franchise was announced.
