8. Tal-Rho / Morgan Edge

When we first heard that Superman and Lois would be adapting Morgan Edge as the main villain of its first season, we never could have imagined the journey we would go on with the character. A businessman who attempted to silence Lois’ words in the Daily Planet and dig for X-Kryptonite in the mines of Smallville, it was clear that there was more going on with him. But nobody saw what that “more” actually was.

Morgan Edge was, in fact, Tal-Rho, son of Zeta-Rho and Lara-El – and half-brother of Superman himself. It was a shocker of a reveal (and not only because that character doesn’t exist in the comics) as it added a lot more emotional weight to the story, portraying Edge as more than just a corrupt and cold-hearted business tycoon.

The driving force behind Tal’s heinous actions in season 1 was his desire for a family. That doesn’t excuse his attempts to eradicate the Smallville residents’ memories and use their bodies as vessels for his Kryptonian family, but it does explain them. And that started one of the most compelling journeys of redemption for Tal in the second season, as he realized that he always had family in his brother.

Tal became a hero that was willing to sacrifice himself and help save the world from Ally Allston and that was a fitting way to close out his redemption arc. Thankfully, he survived and is now living his best life on the Inverse World, and we hope we can catch up with him someday in a future season.
