Disney has delayed the release dates for Marvel’s next six films, marking a major scheduling shift for the studio’s upcoming MCU slate.
If you’re anything like us, you’ve got your calendar marked up with all the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release dates. Well, it seems our meticulous planning has gone awry, as Marvel Studios just hit us with the superhero version of a plot twist: the delay of six upcoming movies.
Seems the script of Hollywood life post-COVID-19 still has some surprises in store!
We’ve been sitting, waiting, and wishing since Phase 5 of the MCU started with pretty mixed reviews. Now it seems we’re in for a bit more of a wait. The delay drama kicked off with The Marvels leapfrogging from a summer to a fall release. Little did we know, this was just the overture.
Marvel is reportedly pushing back the release of six upcoming films in the Multiverse Saga. And no, it’s not because Thanos snapped his finger again – the ongoing writers’ strike and other complications are the culprits behind the shift.
One movie that bucked the trend? Deadpool 3, which heroically moved its release date forward to May 3, 2024. As for the rest, here’s where they stand.
Captain America: Brave New World released date
Sam Wilson’s first solo stint as Captain America was meant to wrap up Phase 5. But now, the newly renamed Captain America: Brave New World will drop into theaters on July 26, 2024. The good news is that despite the writers’ strike, production appears to be on track, with WWE superstar Seth “Freakin” Rollins making a grand entrance.
Thunderbolts release date
Just as it started rolling, the production of Thunderbolts came to a screeching halt due to the writers’ strike. Now, we’ll have to wait until December 20, 2024, to see our favorite anti-heroes turn a new leaf in the MCU.
Blade release date
Ah, Blade, the poor soul of the MCU’s upcoming roster. Announced way back at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, the production has seen more reshuffles than a Las Vegas card dealer. Our vampire hunter will now make his debut on February 12, 2025. Let’s hope the delay only sharpens the blade!
… Anyway.
Fantastic Four release date
The Fantastic Four are heading into the prime May slot, moving from February 12, 2025, to May 2, 2025. Given the hype around Marvel’s First Family, this feels like a logical move. With WandaVision’s Matt Shakman at the helm and Adam Driver joining the MCU, the reboot promises to be worth the wait.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty release date
With the Fantastic Four stepping into May, the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty takes a step back to May 1, 2026. Despite some uncertainties, fans are eager to follow Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as they chase Kang the Conqueror’s Variants through time and space.
Avengers: Secret Wars release date
Rounding out the reshuffle, Avengers: Secret Wars has been bumped to May 7, 2027. Even with the plot tighter than a S.H.I.E.L.D. operation, rumors suggest that this one is going to open the MCU to even wider horizons.
Though these delays are absolutely horrible, don’t forget that The Marvels is still on track to save our movie-going day on November 11, 2023.
