Spider-Man: 10 best Across the Spider-Verse characters, ranked
By Mark Lynch
1. Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099)
"“Miles, being Spider-Man is a sacrifice. That’s the job.” – Miguel O’Hara"
Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales were perfect heroes. On the flip side, they had Miguel O’Hara. As dark and wicked as he seemed, he wasn’t exactly a villain. A debate can be made that he wasn’t the bad guy in Across the Spider-Verse. Sure, he could have handled the Miles Morales situation better, but he was defending the multiverse. He didn’t see a different way and time is always a factor. Because of that, labeling him as a villain could be wrong.
Miguel is protecting the Spider-Verse. Sure, did he appear and act evil and send the entire Spider Society after Miles Morales? Yes. And the whole kind of being a vampire thing does add to the perception of him being bad, too. The constant scowling wasn’t doing him any favors either. But this writer wouldn’t call him a bad guy. He’s just someone who’s in an impossible situation.
As Peter B. Parker mentioned, Miguel O’Hara is the only Spider-Man without a sense of humor. That didn’t change at all during the movie. He wasn’t accidentally funny either. It was all seriousness all the time. Not shocking considering everything that he went through and what he’s doing.
All of that, and the fact that he is unlike anyone else in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, put him in the number one spot. This writer believes he’ll be ranked the same in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
