Superman and Lois will return for a fourth season, but don’t be expecting to see these characters on our screen anymore.

It’s a bittersweet time for Superman and Lois fans. The critically-acclaimed DC TV series has been renewed for a fourth season by The CW. The decision comes after months of uncertainty regarding its future, as the network (which is now owned by Nexstar) looks to move towards cheaper programming.

As a result, Superman and Lois‘ season 4 renewal comes with some limitations. The episode count is the first of those limitations, as the show’s fourth season will consist of 10 episodes – that’s three less than season 3, and five less than the first two seasons. As Deadline confirmed, that renewal also comes with a cast reduction.

That means there will be less familiar faces in Smallville and Metropolis when Superman and Lois returns for its fourth season next year. We now know that seven main cast members won’t be series regulars, but the hope is that they will return in some capacity in either recurring or guest roles. Some, however, won’t.

But that won’t be the only reason that some of the show’s characters won’t return, as a number of story developments throughout season 3 have already confirmed that we have seen the last of some other characters.

From cast cuts to season 3 character exits, here are three of Superman and Lois‘ characters we shouldn’t expect to see in the show’s fourth season.
