The Flash: George Clooney returns as Batman in stunning image
By Cody Schultz
Rumor has it George Clooney could be returning as Batman in The Flash and we get to see George Clooney as the new Batman in this stunning image.
In 1997, George Clooney was chosen to play the iconic character of Batman in the movie Batman & Robin which went on to become one of the most polarizing Batman films ever released.
Despite his undeniable charm and acting skills, Clooney was criticized for not bringing the necessary darkness and brooding intensity that Batman is known for. The script didn’t help his case, as it was heavily criticized for being too campy and shallow.
Clooney hung up his cape following the film and left Batman behind in his rearview mirror even later admitting in interviews that he was terrible in the role.
When the character’s live-action portrayals are ranked, his Batman often ranks toward the bottom of most DC fans’ personal ranking. However, there are many others who have come to love his Batman and embraced the campiness of the film — even praising his Bruce Wayne persona directly.
While fans might not have been campaigning for DC to bring Clooney back into the mix as Batman, there are rumors suggesting Clooney could soon be returning to the DCEU. And while this rumor has been met with mixed reactions, it’s hard not to get excited about the prospect of Clooney’s return when checking out some of the fan art starting to hit the internet!
What George Clooney could look like as Batman in The Flash
Clearly inspired by recent rumors suggesting the return of a former Batman in The Flash — outside of Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton — digital artist Josh “clements.ink,” has rolled out a stunning new concept art envisioning George Clooney’s return as the Caped Crusader.
In the new art, Clooney slips back into Batman’s signature suit, a suit inspired by the one Clooney wore back in 1997’s Batman & Robin. Of course, with a few decades having since passed, it’s clear the Bruce Wayne under the cowl is a bit more weathered and grey this time around.
While the art pays tribute to the original suit donned by Clooney, it also does an incredible job of making it look a bit more modern with some noticeable signs of wear from the years.
Although Clooney’s turn as Batman was a polarizing one, there’s no denying the concept art makes quite a compelling argument for how amazing it could be to see him suit back up and once again don the Batsuit.
Warning: The Flash spoilers ahead.
Is George Clooney in The Flash?
Some thought we would never get to see George Clooney back as Batman after his panned turn as the Caped Crusader in Batman and Robin; however, if there is one thing we’ve learned is that we should never say never. More than 25 years after first playing Batman in 1997’s Batman and Robin, George Clooney returned for a cameo in DC’s The Flash movie.
Prior to the film’s release, prominent Marvel and DC insider Grace Randolph revealed that DC was expected to bring back a third Batman within the film. At the time, the rumor from Randolph suggested the plan was to bring back either Val Kilmer, George Clooney, or Christian Bale for a cameo in the film with the potential for them to then take a larger role in the future of the franchise.
While it was unclear if the rumor would prove to be legit and which of the three actors would appear, with the release of The Flash in theaters on June 15 we can now confirm Clooney returns as Bruce Wayne in the film.
After fixing the timeline, Barry Allen returns to the present day where it looks like everything has gone back to normal after he messed with the timeline. What Barry quickly found out as the film came to a close was that his actions had ripple effects that led to his world’s Bruce Wayne no longer being the Ben Affleck version of the character but rather the George Clooney Bruce Wayne!
It’s unclear what Clooney’s cameo could mean for Batman’s future in the DCU, but if nothing else it was a fun way to bring back Clooney in an unexpected twist and was a sure treat for fans of his Batman,
