4. Lily James

While previous X-Men movies have given us a younger version of Rogue, now that the characters are part of the MCU we could potentially get an older version of the character, much like we see in so many of the comics. And that means considering actresses who are a bit older and yet who have what it takes to make us believe that they have powers and the ability to even be considered leaders among the X-Men.

Knowing that we are also considering older actresses for this role, we had to look to Lily James for the part of Rogue. Not only has she been able to hold her own in a wide range of movies with the likes of Meryl Streep, Cher, Colin Firth, Sebastian Stan, and Gary Oldman acting opposite her, but she has been able to do it in a way that makes each of the characters she has portrayed her own.

At 34 years old, James also has a level of maturity that we would want from someone potentially playing an older Rogue. We want someone who can bring a sense of vulnerability and gravity to the role, while also being a leader and someone we believe can save the day.

Thanks to any number of past roles, we know that Lily James has what it takes to be not only a scene stealer but also an effective lead.

She has been at the heart of a variety of different genres of movies and that means that she should be able to be a part of the MCU without us worrying that she will get lost in the shuffle of superheroes. And honestly, the fact that she has portrayed Cinderella is all I need to know when it comes to how she would handle being around large personalities (after all, some of her castmates included Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, and Richard Madden).
