2. Elizabeth Gillies

As a fan of the former CW Network (when shows like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and even Dynasty were a staple of the channel), Elizabeth Gillies is someone who has been on my radar for a long time. It probably helps that I have watched her on the Nickelodeon series Victorious as the “frenemy” of the main character, who could verbally spar with anyone and pretty much always win the battle of words.

But something I didn’t know about until recently is that Gillies is actually the voice of Catwoman in the 2022 animated film Catwoman: Hunted. And knowing that she has already dipped her toes into the world of comic book characters makes it feel like a given that she could be a part of the MCU.

In terms of her taking on the role of Rogue, it feels like she has that level of maturity that we think a slightly older member of the X-Men would need. At the same time, we could honestly see her bringing something special to the role, including a bit of sassiness and snark that has definitely been missing from the big-screen version of the character.

Technically, at 29 years old, Elizabeth Gillies is not necessarily the youngest actress we could have chosen to bring this character to life, but at her age, she could portray either the younger and more insecure version of Rogue, or she could play the older version who is resigned to being a hero. We could see her embracing not only her super strength and ability to fly but also her relationship with Gambit in a way that elevates the big screen X-Men in a way that hasn’t been seen before.

Do we want an X-Men movie that focuses on the personal lives of these heroes? Probably not. But we wouldn’t mind seeing a better-developed version of Rogue where she has embraced who she is, while also having deeper relationships with other members of the X-Men.

Elizabeth Gillies seems like she would be a perfect choice for a more developed and integrated version of Rogue. And she has what it takes to elevate the character in new and interesting ways.
