The Flash cameos: Is George Clooney in The Flash? (2023)
By Cody Schultz
Are the rumors true? Is George Clooney among the many Flash cameos? Find out if Clooney returns as the Dark Knight in the new DC movie.
It took us nearly a decade, but we’ve finally reached the Flash Point! Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash brings Barry Allen to the big screen for the hero’s first cinematic standalone film, one which tackles one of the biggest Flash comic book storylines ever: Flash Point!
In an attempt to alter the past and change events that led to his mother’s death, Barry travels through time back to the past which unintentionally leads to a collision of worlds as the multiverse is cracked wide open.
Upon attempting to return to the present day after going back in time to save his mother, Barry instead lands in an alternate reality where he must team up with an 18-year-old version of himself, a very familiar-looking Batman from another timeline, and a Kryptonian in hopes of stopping General Zod, saving the day and restoring the timeline before it reaches a point of no repair.
The introduction of the Flash Point storyline and the DC multiverse opens the door for DC to include some amazing cameos and utilize characters we haven’t seen on the big screen in years (some even decades). It also means there are a lot of rumors out there about who will or won’t make an appearance in the film.
Among the names in the fray is Batman & Robin actor George Clooney, whose involvement was rumored before the film hit theaters. But was there actually any truth to the rumors about Clooney making a cameo?
Warning: We’re about to enter spoiler territory in discussing whether the rumor of George Clooney’s involvement in The Flash is true. If you wish to avoid spoilers, this is where you’ll want to leave us as spoilers begin after the jump.
Is George Clooney in The Flash?
George Clooney does indeed make a cameo in DC’s 2023 film The Flash. Clooney is among a handful of former DC stars who pop up across the crowded film which finds Barry Allen racing back in time and sending ripples through the Multiverse with his actions.
In addition to the returns of Michael Keaton’s Batman, Michael Shannon’s Zod, and the debut of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl which had been confirmed in promotional materials ahead of the film’s release, The Flash also managed to sneak in a number of unexpected cameos across the movie. Among them was a surprise appearance from George Clooney in the role of Bruce Wayne as the film comes to a close.
Does George Clooney play Batman in the Flash?
Technically speaking, George Clooney does reprise his role as Batman within DC’s The Flash; however, we never get to see Clooney back in his infamous Batman & Robin Batsuit. Instead, Clooney’s cameo in the film is as Bruce Wayne.
After fixing the timeline, Barry returns to the present day, where it appears that everything has reverted to its usual state after his interference with the past. However, as the film comes to a close, Barry discovers a startling revelation: his actions had caused ripple effects, resulting in a significant alteration in his world’s Bruce Wayne.
Instead of the Ben Affleck version we’ve seen in the DCEU, the role of Bruce Wayne is now embodied by George Clooney, who greets Barry as Bruce in the closing scene much to Barry’s surprise.
Is George Clooney the new Batman?
Given that Barry’s actions in The Flash result in his Bruce Wayne no longer being the Ben Afflect Batman, but rather the Batman we met in Batman & Robin, many fans are speculating whether Clooney is the new Batman. However, this does not appear to be the case at all what with the DCEU as we know it is about to come to an end.
While there is a chance Clooney might have returned as Batman in a future Flash movie or even a future DCEU set movie, with James Gunn and Peter Safran set to reboot the franchise it is expected that they’ll be casting a new actor to play Batman in Batman: The Bold and the Brave.
It’s also been hinted that the new DCU Batman will only be a few years older than Superman, and with DC looking to cast an actor in his early 30s to play Superman, that would make Clooney’s Batman far older than their intended plan.
