A new Disney Plus poster showcasing some of Marvel’s most recent heroes just removed the final two original Avengers from the line-up.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has continually evolved over time. From a small shared universe of six major heroes, to a multiverse-spanning saga full of different worlds, realms, and galaxies, it knows a thing or two about change. But its biggest change came from Phase Four and the arrival of the Disney Plus shows.

With the likes of WandaVision and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, the MCU was able to begin a new chapter of showcasing some underrated heroes and introducing new ones with exciting new chapters on the small screen. It was an example of how the MCU had grown, and the MCU banner on Disney Plus highlighted that, featuring some heroes from the original generation and some from the new generation.

However, that banner has been changed significantly.

Disney Plus’ new MCU banner removes classic Avengers

If you head on over to Disney Plus’ Marvel section, you’ll notice that the MCU graphic has been significantly updated to reflect the look of the current MCU. As pointed out by The Direct, that banner (which can be seen here) consists of Shuri’s Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Shang-Chi, Scarlet Witch, Loki, She-Hulk, and Yelena Belova’s Black Widow.

It’s exciting to see the new heroes celebrated in the banner, many of whom were already in the previous one albeit with updated graphics (Wanda is now in her Scarlet Witch gear), but what’s also noticeable is the fact that the two remaining original Avengers in that poster, Thor and original Black Widow Natasha Romanoff have been removed from it. Another character removed from the banner was T’Challa’s Black Panther.

While it’s likely upsetting for fans to see the beloved characters removed from the MCU banner, the likely reason for this was to reflect the current state of the MCU. Shuri has carried on her beloved brother’s legacy as the new Black Panther, while Yelena has done the same for her sister as Black Widow. Thor will return someday, but he isn’t expected to appear in any titles in Phase Five, so this updated banner simply features some of the MCU’s more recent heroes.

So Thor will likely return to it in the future, and we very well could see fellow original Avengers Hawkeye and Hulk feature on it too if they star in any Phase Six titles. The question is if we will ever see an all-encompassing graphic highlighting all the eras that features some of the heroes no longer present in the MCU.
