DC fans have been abuzz with speculation over who might play Wonder Woman next, but it seems Gal Gadot might not hanging up the Lasso of Truth just yet.
The superhero mantle at DC has been shuffled around in recent times, creating a vacuum that several fan-favorite actors could potentially fill.
The iconic Gal Gadot had embodied the fierce Amazonian warrior, Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman, with such elegance and grace that any successor would have large boots to fill. The end of Gadot’s reign came with the shift in leadership at DC, as James Gunn and Peter Safran stepped in as the new co-heads.
The duo then dropped a bombshell that DC wouldn’t be proceeding with the third installment of Wonder Woman. This heartbreaking announcement was softened by the news that Gadot would make a farewell appearance in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.
Who will play Wonder Woman in James Gunn’s DCU?
With Gadot’s departure, the conjecture began over who would don the tiara and wield the Lasso of Truth next. Ana de Armas’ name has surfaced several times in these discussions. The star, who’s been rapidly climbing the Hollywood ladder with roles in films like Knives Out, was recently promoting her new film Ghosted alongside Chris Evans. This is where the rumor mill spun into overdrive.
Speaking to Wired during her film promotions, Ana was asked about the rumors of her stepping into Wonder Woman’s golden greaves. The actress, known for her commendable acting chops and enviable screen presence, was candid about her position. “Well, I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job. So you know, I think she should keep doing that,” Ana stated, displaying respect for Gadot’s portrayal and a certain reluctance to fill those famous boots.
Interestingly, it now appears DC might not be looking to replace Gadot after all with Gadot hinting to ET that her time with the franchise may not be over.
“Things are being worked behind the scenes and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it,” Gadot teased in a comment that hints that DC might be reconsidering its decision to recast her in future DCU projects.
It’s clear that Gadot’s portrayal of the Amazonian princess has left an indelible mark on the DCU, as well as on the hearts of fans and fellow actors alike. Her appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, followed by her solo franchise in 2017 and 2020, has set a high bar for her successor but perhaps one won’t be needed just yet.
