About Super-Wrestler “El Muerto”
Now you may not be familiar with Marvel’s luchador character El Muerto and that’s to be expected since he only briefly appeared in the comics. That being said he does have some interesting backstory and moments that could make a decent movie and that’s probably one of the reasons Sony decided to go forward with this project. El Muerto‘s origin goes back to Marcus Estrada de la García who was training his son Juan-Carlos Sánchez his whole life to be the next wearer of the mask and become the new El Muerto.
The mask has been passed down generations of Juan-Carlos’ family. It has mystical attributes that give the wearer superhuman strength, stamina, and endurance. In part of the training, there was a ritual that needed to take place in order for Juan-Carlos to don the mask. It consisted of a battle against the supernatural entity known as El Dorado, but, Juan-Carlos refused to fight showing no interest in taking on the role. El Dorado decided a punishment for this would be death and attempted to execute Juan-Carlos but his father sacrificed himself instead.
Juan-Carlos was then given 10 years to train thanks to his father’s bravery to prove to El Dorado that he was worthy enough for the title of El Muerto and by the end of the 10th year he must defeat and unmask a hero or El Dorado would come for his life again.
Sony’s El Muerto is currently in development.
