Reed Richards from Marvel’s Ultimate Universe has erased his universe’s Spider-Man and he’s not done yet making changes.
In 2015, during the Marvel Comics event Secret Wars, the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) was erased from existence. After the event concluded, Miles Morales, a.k.a. Spider-Man, and those closest to him (like his parents and Ganke) became part of Universe-616. Another character from Universe-1610 on Earth-616 is Reed Richards’ evil counterpart, the Maker. A villain with all of Reed’s intelligence and none of his morals.
The Maker spent the better part of his time post-Ultimate Universe being irrelevant. This is surprising since he’s among the most intelligent people in the multiverse. In Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Invasion No. 1, Reed reminds readers why he’s one of the smartest ever. He escapes a prison that should be impossible to break out of and goes back to his original reality. This is only part of his plan. The Maker then finds a way to go back in time and change the history of the Ultimate Universe.
During his incarceration within Damage Control, Reed Richards met with multiple therapists. One of them actually got through to him. He encouraged Reed to be a better man with better goals. Of course, Reed took this advice and tainted it. When he returned to Universe-1610, he didn’t try to change who he was. Instead, the Maker goes into the Ultimate Universe’s past and stops Peter Parker from becoming Spider-Man.
What are The Maker’s plans in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe?
If this writer had to guess, the Maker wants to be the savior of Earth-1610. This would make him the only person that the world praises. Ultimate Reed Richards feels he should be admired as a god. In order to do that, he has to eliminate anyone who could stop or exceed his greatness. That means going after anyone who’s beaten him in the past. The next issue will likely show Reed making changes to Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man. Instead of killing them, he could make them his subordinates.
The sad part is this is probably all for Sue Storm. He may act like he doesn’t care, but Reed still loves Sue. That love was likely heightened when he saw what Earth-616 Reed had with his Sue Storm (Cataclysm: The Ultimates No. 3). Too bad she’ll never love the Maker when she finds out who he truly is. This is how his empire will crumble in the end. He’ll never get everything he wants and Ultimate Invasion will likely conclude with the Maker sacrificing himself.
