11. Supernatural season 13

The haunting world of Supernatural took an unlucky turn in its thirteenth season, serving up a chilling cocktail of creative innovation and fan dismay. This installment was a resounding echo from the past, reigniting memories of familiar faces previously killed off, but this time with a mind-bending twist.

The majority of these beloved characters had undergone an eerie transformation, having emerged from an Apocalypse World rather than from their original narrative roles. This dexterous manipulation of character reincarnations was a playground of creativity for the writers, spawning a fresh approach to the already engrossing Supernatural storyline. And speaking of fresh approaches, the season also did an animated crossover with Scooby Doo.

We also can’t talk about season 13 without mentioning what could have been. The tenth episode of the season was the Wayward Sisters backdoor pilot, which cast a spotlight on Jody Mills, a character who trains a group of troubled young women who all suffered supernatural tragedies in their lives and sets the stage for them to become a monster-hunting team. This exciting set-up was supposed to culminate in a spin-off series, raising fans’ anticipation for the expansion of the Supernatural shared universe.

However, this promising idea was abruptly shelved, leaving fans’ hopes for the new series unfulfilled and their dissatisfaction echoing alongside the unresolved plotlines of season 13. It would only be when the main show finished that Supernatural would finally spawn a spinoff in the one-season series The Winchesters.
