We’re getting a brand new Batman in the DC Universe and DC’s The Flash has confirmed this.

Batman is easily the most well-known superhero of all time. Whether that’s down to his timeless appeal in the DC Comics books or his ever-lasting presence on the big screen, we all know and love the Caped Crusader.

Speaking of his big screen presence, the dear old Dark Knight is undergoing another recasting. No, we don’t mean Robert Pattinson’s broody hero in Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise. He will continue to play that role in the upcoming sequel which will stand alone, separate from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

But will a familiar face be playing the World’s Greatest Detective in upcoming movie The Brave and the Bold? Well, The Flash has answered those questions. If you haven’t seen the DCEU movie just yet, we’d advise you look away now.

*** This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS from The Flash. If you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want it spoiled for you, don’t read on. ***

How DC’s The Flash confirms we will see a new Batman in the DC Universe

The post-credits scene of The Flash confirmed that we’re about to have a new actor playing Batman in the DC Universe and that none of the previous actors will be reprising their role.

The Caped Crusader will return to screens in upcoming DC Universe movie The Brave and the Bold. The movie will launch the DCU version of the character and but that’s all fans really know about it at this point. There has been a lot of discussion as to whether the previous Batmen from the DCEU could reprise their roles because the original idea was for one of those Dark Knights to carry on in the franchise. But now The Flash has confirmed and explained why that won’t be the case.

While Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton reprised their roles as their respective versions of the DC hero in The Flash, the ending of the movie confirmed that neither of their Bruce Waynes will feature in The Brave and the Bold.

The movie’s closing scene saw George Clooney return as Batman, shocking fans who saw the movie in theaters. Don’t worry, though, Clooney won’t be playing the new Batman either. That scene just reiterated that The Flash’s actions have altered the timeline.

It was the post-credits scene that really confirmed we’ll have a new actor playing Batman. In that scene, Barry Allen revealed to Aquaman that, in his bid to restore the timeline, every time he goes back in time, Bruce Wayne ends up with a new face. Not only does that explain how Affleck morphed into Keaton, and how they morphed into Clooney; it confirms that we will see a different variation of Batman in The Brave and the Bold and how the previous actors’ Batmen will cease to exist in this timeline.

Gunn did tease that a new actor would take on the role before, but given that he also shut down the Clooney return rumor, some fans were wondering if this was also a tease to prevent spoiling the ending of The Flash. Ironically, it was the ending of The Flash that actually reinforced Gunn’s new actor tease.

A new Dark Knight will rise in the DC Universe and we can’t wait to see who brings him to life.
