6. Daniel Kaluuya

Who could have ever predicted one of the breakout characters from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would be a guitar slinging, mohawked Spider-Man named Hobart?! Voiced by the Oscar-winning Daniel Kaluuya, Hobart “Hobie” Brown aka Spider-Punk was an absolute standout within the second film in the Spider-Verse franchise.

Hobie Brown, also known as Spider-Punk, embodies rebellion and defiance against authority. In the movie Across the Spider-Verse, his character is a major scene-stealer who becomes a crucial ally to Miles Morales.

On Earth-138, Spider-Punk is a British figure rather than an American rebel, as portrayed in the comics. Initially, Miles feels envious of Hobie’s connection with Gwen, but he soon realizes that Spider-Punk supports his own rebellious spirit, even standing up for him during a crucial moment in the movie. When Miguel confines Miles, it’s Hobie who reminds him of his unique abilities to escape by using his palms and venom strike. Despite Miles’ initial jealousy, Spider-Punk emerges as the one person he can truly trust within Gwen’s Spider-Band.

Kaluuya was absolutely brillant in the role, using his vocal abilities to craft a character who audiences quickly fell in love with. Fans are already eager to see more of the character in the final movie in the trilogy and it’s not hard to see why as the character managed to standout in a literal sea of Spider-Men with his unique style and flair.
