After months of searching for the perfect pair to play Superman and Lois Lane, DC has cast the lead roles in its upcoming film Superman: Legacy.

From the moment James Gunn and Peter Safran stepped into their roles as the new heads of DC Studios, it was clear that the pair would be helping to usher in an exciting new chapter in DC Comics history.

Of course, we knew there would be some growing pains and the relaunching of the DC Universe would bring about a wave of changes. Some of these changes were expected, while others are ones we’re still wrapping our heads around. However, through it all, there has been a clear sense of excitement among audiences to see what the pair can do with the rich library of characters to pull from in launching a new shared DC Universe.

Naturally, the pair were quick to turn to two of the most iconic heroes in the DC arsenal to help usher in the new era with Superman and Batman at the forefront of the planned launch. Leading the way would be Superman: Legacy, the first film set directly in the new DCU which will introduce a new Superman and Lois Lane and help to launch a new shared universe.

Since announcing the film, Gunn and Safran have been hard at work in searching for the perfect pair to bring Superman and Lois Lane to life in Superman: Legacy. The search eventually led them to a group of six talented stars and, now, DC has officially found its new Clark and Lois!

Who is playing Superman in Superman: Legacy?

Following months in the casting process, DC has announced that actor David Corenswet will be suiting up as the next Man of Steel playing Clark Kent aka Superman in Superman: Legacy. The film will mark Corenswet’s first major role in a comic book movie and comes after the actor emerged as one of the final candidates in the running for the role of Clark Kent.

In June, Corenswet was among three actors who screen-tested for the role for James Gunn and Peter Safran with Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney also in the mix. Clearly, Corenswet wowed the studio heads, beating out Hoult and Brittney for the coveted role.

Who is playing Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy?

Joining David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy, is actress Rachel Brosnahan, who has landed the highly sought-after role of Lois Lane in the upcoming DC Comics picture. Brosnahan is best known for her Emmy-winning performance in the lead role of The Marvelous Ms. Maisel and emerged as a favorite for the part of Lois Lane as casting entered the final stages.

In addition to Brosnahan, James Gunn and Peter Safran also met with Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor for the part with all three actresses screen-testing for the heads of DC this June. Interestingly, Brosnahan did not screen test with Corenswet, as The Hollywood Reporter noted that the studio paired Brosnahan with Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney with Phoebe Dynevor, and Corenswet and Emma Mackey.

Clearly, they saw something special in both Corenswet and Brosnahan which led them to cast the pair in the new movie which will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
