For the most part, Demon Slayer is a wholesome, feel-good anime series. That is, when annoying demons and other human beings aren’t interfering with our much-needed slice-of-life scenes.
Worst Demon Slayer characters
Whether they only got a sliver of screen time or will follow us all the way to the very end of Demon Slayer, some characters know just what to say or do to get under our skins. Granted, these kinds of characters serve a greater purpose. (Be it to show how our favorite characters can overcome any obstacle or to add some more depth to the story.) But admittedly, the world would be a much better place without them here!
Without further ado, here are our top most-hated characters in Demon Slayer, ranked from worst to absolutely horrible!
6. Hated Demon Slayer characters: Akaza
In a lot of ways, Akaza is the only Upper-Rank demon many can tolerate. He’s dependable, hard-working, and doesn’t seem to harbor too much ill will towards human beings. In addition to this, he is somewhat the protagonist of the demons, meaning he has a lot of depth that is sure to add to his character. But don’t let all these positive attributes fool you, as this demon still has flaws that definitely make him one to be disliked.
Akaza is one of Muzan’s most trusted henchmen because he ensures he, at the very least, acquires some information about the most powerful demon slayers there are. He then takes that information to use it to his benefit. Hence why he was able to find Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, and ultimately challenge him to a duel to the death.
As we know, Rengoku wasn’t willing to turn into a demon, rejecting all of Akaza’s wishes. And while we were more than proud that Rengoku stood his ground, we couldn’t say the same about Akaza who severely punished our beloved warrior and didn’t have enough respect to fight despite the rising of the sun.
(Re-live the epic, hair-raising battle here.)
What would make us hate Akaza less? Out of everyone on this list, we certainly feel the most sorry for Akaza. So much so we wouldn’t even say that we “hate” him. We wish he didn’t fall victim to converting into a demon because we know that he has such a good heart despite everything he’s been through. In some ways, we think if Akaza remained human, he would’ve been either a Hashira or a mentor (and best friend) to Rengoku.
Although we absolutely will never forgive Akaza for taking the life of one of our favorite Hashira members, we truly owe all of our hatred to the very menace that put him up to it.
