When does Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 come out on Disney Plus?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is already one of the biggest movies of the year, but when can fans expect the MCU film to arrive on Disney Plus.

Marvel fans weren’t ready for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. We say that knowing full-well that it had been five years since the second installment in the trilogy was released, but as this was to be the James Gunn saga’s final installment, we can say with great confidence that they weren’t ready for it.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was released to theaters in early May and it quickly reminded those who saw it why they loved the title characters so much. MCU fans went to see the film in their droves, with the movie quickly becoming one of the most successful movies of the year.

However, not every fan went to see it in movie theaters. Those that didn’t often watch the MCU films when they come out on Disney Plus. And those who are eager to rewatch them often do the same. But when can we expect Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to be released to the streaming platform?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Disney Plus release date

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is released on Disney Plus on Wednesday, August 2 2023, Marvel Studios has announced.

There was a lot of speculation about when it would premiere leading up to Marvel Studios and Disney Plus’ confirmation in July 2023. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies used to have a theatrical release window of around 45 – 70 days before they made their presence felt on the streamer, often landing on the service in and around the 60-day mark. However, that release window has steadily increased, with more recent additions to the MCU coming around 80 days after their cinematic debut.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania set the release record for the longest window, premiering on Disney Plus 89 days after its theatrical release (a record which Guardians 3 has now tied). It was also released digitally first, arriving on digital and video-on-demand services just 60 days after debuting in cinemas (a whole month before its Disney Plus debut).

It seems like this is the beginning of a new trend for MCU movies, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was also released to VOD services prior to showing up on Disney Plus, arriving on July 7.

Thankfully, the wait for its Disney Plus release wasn’t too long after all.
