3. “Mazey Day”

“Mazey Day” starts with a look at the paparazzi and how they can be vultures. There were moments where you saw the lengths people will go to get a picture. It didn’t matter how much it hurt someone. All the paparazzi cared about was money. In the beginning, it seemed like one of our main characters, Bo (played by Zazie Beetz), saw how bad this was and would learn a lesson. Considering this is Black Mirror, of course, she didn’t.

This was the weirdest episode of the season, but very Black Mirror by using a werewolf to get a point across. An actress named Mazey Day (played by Clara Rugaard) needed help, attempted to leave her life of fame behind, and still wasn’t left alone. In the end, Bo did something deplorable. She took a picture of Mazey as she was choking on her own blood and taking her last breaths.

2. “Joan is Awful”

“Joan is Awful” was the perfect way for Black Mirror season 6 to start. It was a thoroughly entertaining episode and easily the funniest of the season. Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek were hilarious playing fictional characters and parodies of themselves. However, with the funny moments also came a look at the danger of using artificial intelligence.

A.I. has been a topic of discussion among creators, especially during the current WGA writer’s strike. The topic is increasingly relevant and the show ensures that it isn’t exaggerated. It’s classic Black Mirror. They used humor to show the possible danger of technology.

As great as this episode was, it wasn’t the best of the season. That honor goes to…
