Sony teases new Marvel projects for 2024 and 2025. Could this be the dates for the long-awaited Venom 3 and Spider-Man 4?

In a tantalizing update for Marvel fans worldwide, Sony Pictures has announced that it has reserved release dates for two undisclosed Marvel projects on November 8, 2024, and June 27, 2025, respectively. Both films will be showcased on IMAX screens, fueling the excitement and speculation among Marvel enthusiasts regarding what’s next in Sony’s Marvel lineup.

As reported by Deadline, there is no major competition slated for the November 8, 2024 date. The first week of November will see an untitled event film from Universal while Warner Bros is preparing to release an undisclosed tentpole project on November 15. Aside from that, however, a November 8 release looks good for the Sony Marvel movie.

The June 27, 2025 date set by Sony will see the studio’s next Marvel release go up against a Blumhouse project and Disney’s live-action version of Moana. This sets the stage for an intriguing battle at the box office.

Could Venom 3 or Spider-Man 4 be released on those dates?

The recent announcement has triggered widespread speculation among fans and critics alike. The buzz points to possibilities such as the third installment of the Venom franchise or even the next film in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series (which is set in Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Venom 3’s script has been written and production is expected to begin in the near-future. As the script is completed, it shouldn’t be impacted by the WGA Writers Strike that is still ongoing. With that in mind, that October 2024 release window is looking like a likely possibility for that one.

On the Spider-Man 4 end of things, Holland has been feeding the fan frenzy with cryptic comments about the future of Spider-Man in the MCU. In a recent interview with Inverse, he hinted at some developments, expressing his excitement for the character’s future but stopping short of revealing any specifics. He commented:

"“Some stuff is going on. Whether or not it’ll come to fruition, who knows? But right now it’s looking pretty good, and we’ll just have to wait and see.”"

Sony’s most recent Marvel outing, the animated movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has been the biggest movie of the summer thus far, amassing over $400 million at the box office. The film’s commercial and critical success is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Spider-Man universe, suggesting a promising path forward for potential sequels or spin-offs. It’s also a welcome victory after the disappointing performance of Morbius last year and the lacklustre critical reception to the highly-successful Venom franchise.

The coming years are shaping up to be a thrilling ride for Marvel fans with Sony’s new announcements, pointing towards an exciting future full of superheroic adventures. As we continue to speculate and wait for more official news, the thrilling world of Sony and Marvel’s collaboration continues to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
