Marvel: All 6 Avengers ranked from worst to best
5. Clint Barton / Hawkeye
A lot of people were probably expecting Clint Barton to land in sixth place on this list. There’s literally a joke about how Hawkeye is nobody’s favorite Avenger. And you know, prior to Disney Plus’ Hawkeye series, he may well have found himself in last place, but that’s not the case anymore.
Clint Barton’s shortcomings throughout his MCU run weren’t exactly shortcomings on his part as much as they were shortcomings on the MCU itself for not giving him any kind of present day storylines. Here we have this skilled archer and SHIELD operative who rescued Black Widow from a life she hated, fell under the spell of a Norse god, and had a whole secret family we didn’t know about for much of his run. The backstory was there, but the content was not.
Nevertheless, Jeremy Renner’s grumpy hero not only proved himself through some incredible fighting and archery sequences, he eventually showed us that there was so much potential to his character. From becoming the Ronen after losing his family to The Blip, to undoing that damage and assisting Kate Bishop carry on the Hawkeye legacy in his Disney Plus series, Clint Barton really came into his own towards the (tentative) end of his run as an Avenger. And that just made us wish the MCU explored his story a lot earlier.
