Marvel: That time Wolverine made a deal with the mob
By Mark Lynch
In Marvel Comics’ Wolverine: Law of the Jungle, Logan took on the mob to pay off someone’s debt.
Wolverine has lived more lives than any comic book character that isn’t a god. In nearly two centuries on Earth, Logan was trained by the best in the world and some beings from other planets. He’s also visited other planets, timelines, and realities. Sometimes he does those things without the X-Men.
Despite these adventures, he still finds time to help the everyday person. Wolverine: Law of the Jungle is an example of that.

In this Marvel Comics series, Wolverine learns that a bar owner got into trouble after borrowing money from the Pazzo Family. Going after the guy wasn’t what angered Logan. He owes them money. Their decision to take his daughter as collateral is what infuriated him. Logan visits the kidnappers and does what he does best (and it isn’t very nice). After that, it was off to visit the Pazzo family’s boss, Freddo Pazzo.
Instead of letting the bar owner’s debt go unpaid, he makes a deal with Pazzo Family. He’ll remove their competition (the Roman) if they wipe his friend’s debt. Freddo Pazzo accepts Logan’s offer. Wolverine kills everyone in Roman’s crew. Of course, nothing is ever easy. Freddo gets too big for his britches. He threatens the bar owner’s family to force Logan to work for him. It doesn’t go the way Freddo planned.
Ultimately, Freddo is killed by his underboss, Johnny. Johnny made a deathbed promise to Freddo’s father (and former boss) to keep his son safe. Unfortunately for Freddo, he went too far. Going after a person who owes money is one thing. Kidnapping a kid was going too far and Johnny refused to be part of something like that.
Before killing Freddo, Johnny told Logan his friend’s debt is cleared. Logan was confused and said that the bar owner wasn’t his friend. It was just some guy with a sob story he heard at a bar. Wolverine decided to check it out since he had some time to kill.
Only Logan would save a person’s life just because he had free time. As if he doesn’t have enough going on as it is.
