Tomb Raider will finally grace our screens again, only this time on a much smaller scale with the upcoming Prime Video tv series.
Recently announced, Amazon will deliver a new Tomb Raider live-action series rebooting the franchise with actress, producer, and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge backing up the project.
The last adaptation was 2018’s Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander in the titular role. This adaptation was a reboot of the previous Angelina Jolie films, which received mixed reviews despite being an ambitious entry to the beloved franchise.
With the sequel for Vikander’s Tomb Raider canceled, it left the property up for grabs and ready for a potential reboot, which is currently happening now that Amazon Studios is working with Waller-Bridge to bring a more “dangerous and exciting” take on the story from the popular 90’s video game.
Multi-talented award-winning Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for her beloved dramedy Fleabag, is executive producing and writing the new series. Seen recently in the latest Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Phoebe is now taking on a similar world in that of Lara Croft who draws inspiration from the character of Indiana Jones.
Being a fan of the franchise Phoebe aspires to bring the best out of Lara Croft and create a series surely to become a massive hit for the popular streaming service. The upcoming series is said to have a 90’s feel to the story and action. So we should expect to see a larger-than-life story fleshed out for the Prime Video series.
Tomb Raider is not only getting a new tv series made but a movie as well is in the works also from Amazon Studios. And in the video game corner of the universe, Lara’s story continues with a new game entry from Crystal Dynamics currently in development.
