3. The Avengers
After secretly surviving the events of Thor, Loki returns as the primary antagonist in the MCU’s first major crossover film, The Avengers. with the Asgardian being the reason the Avengers assemble in the first place, to stop him and his hostile takeover of the planet.
Partially corrupted by the mind stone hidden in the Scepter he was gifted, Loki proves himself to be the perfect foil for the newly assembled team, with his god-like abilities being ideal for further dividing a group of people that already don’t get along or trust each other.
Ironically, his killing of Agent Coulson ultimately rallies them to band together and defeat him. The film ends with him getting apprehended by the team and sent back to Asgard with his brother. Hiddleston plays Loki as far more intimidating while infusing more charm than before into the character, which is a large part of the reason this film earned him the cult following it did.
The Avengers is one of the defining films of the MCU and is just a solid film overall. Its main strength is in its character interactions, and, for the most part, Loki gets a chance to interact with all the team members in a way that makes the victory over him feel personal for everyone involved.
