With the news that Eddie Brock won’t be Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we take a look at another potential candidate who could bond with the symbiote.

Ever since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was announced, we learned the game would feature two formidable main antagonists in the form of Kraven the Hunter and Venom. The latter was even teased at the ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 back in 2018. Players who completed the game’s story were treated to a post-credits scene where a sick Harry Osborn was seen using the symbiote as a means to cure his illness. This was a shocking twist that also prompted the question: “Is Harry Osborn going to be Venom in the sequel?”

Fuel was added to the fire once Bryan Intihar, creative director at Insomniac Games, revealed that Eddie Brock isn’t going to bond with the symbiote in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Instead, Bryan told players they would figure out Venom’s identity by playing the game and experiencing the story for themselves. This all but confirms Harry Osborn will take the place of Eddie Brock as Spidey’s darkest villain. After all, it makes narrative sense, right?

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could follow the same storyline as its predecessor, which saw the wall-crawler face two main antagonists as well. Otto Octavius was Peter’s mentor before turning into the evil Doctor Octopus, and Mr. Negative was already a fully formed supervillain when he first crossed paths with Spider-Man.

For the sequel, Peter could fight someone he cares about again if his best friend is corrupted by the symbiote. Additionally, Kraven could enter the scene as an already-existing foe, replacing the role that Mr. Negative used to have. As a result, both games would see Spidey battle someone close to him and somebody else who already has a lot of experience being a supervillain…

Or at least that’s what Insomniac wants us to believe.

See, even if all signs points at Harry being Venom, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could pull a big plot twist and reveal that the game’s two main antagonists are one and the same. So, we’re about to speculate as to how the world’s greatest hunter could also become the Lethal Protector and terrorize Spider-Man on a whole new level.
