Will Doom Patrol season 4 be released?

Amidst mounting fan inquiries, Gunn took to the Threads platform on Sunday to address concerns about the fate of Doom Patrol Season 4B. Responding to a user’s query if the show was “already canceled completely,” Gunn, in his characteristic candid manner, assured that despite not being focused on day-to-day TV scheduling, he “can’t imagine a world where completed episodes are not going to be released.”

Intensifying the prolific filmmaker’s optimism was James Gunn’s subsequent statement, which brought more definitive assurance to the legions of Doom Patrol fans.

"“I now have confirmation: As I surmised, no, Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn’t yet been announced to the public.”"

However, it’s understandable why fans are cautiously expectant. The entertainment world, after all, has witnessed completed projects never making it to the screens. Notably, more than one Warner Bros. Discovery property had this fate, including the Batgirl movie, scheduled for release on Max last August but was disappointingly canceled.

Likewise, the final season of Snowpiercer, despite being fully produced, was abruptly yanked out of TNT’s lineup in January. In such uncertain situations, it’s natural for fans to harbor apprehension about the climactic final episodes of Doom Patrol, which was announced in January to be bowing out, along with fellow DC series Titans, after their respective fourth seasons.

Gunn mentioned then that the decision to end the series was made before his and Peter Safran’s tenure, while a Max spokesperson confirmed their pride in the series and excitement for fans to watch their grand finales. Interestingly, Titans surged back into viewers’ lives in April for its concluding episodes’ run, but Doom Patrol‘s return date remains a cliffhanger, keeping fans on their toes since the Season 4A finale dropped on Max on Jan. 5.

Despite this suspenseful uncertainty, it’s comforting to bask in James Gunn’s positivity. His confidence is as infectious as it is reassuring, suggesting that fans can keep their eye of anticipation trained on the future of Doom Patrol.
