Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine suit could mean more comic-accurate X-Men costumes are coming
The news of Wolverine’s iconic costume is a beacon of hope for Deadpool 3 and future X-Men comic book accurate costume designs.
Hugh Jackman is donning his comic-accurate Wolverine attire for the first time in 23 years In Deadpool 3, an event that could very well be setting the tone for a big change in the clothing department for future superhero costume designs: costume authenticity.
This costume precision marks a revolution in superhero fashion, hinting at upcoming full-blown comic-book-style costume upgrades for other Marvel characters and probably other fellow superhero franchises. And, with Jennifer Garner’s Elektra joining the cast too, this suggests an even larger unfolding Marvel multiverse within Deadpool 3.
As fans, we’re justly intrigued. Some of us have been waiting for a comic book accurate representation of our favorite X-Men heroes for a long time, only to be given adaptations that look good, but have a slight lackluster from being a variant. This leaves us thinking, which comic book characters and costumes might grace the big screen next? How accurate could their costuming be?
With Hugh Jackman finally getting a comic-accurate suit, we can’t help but hope that we’ll see more comic-accurate costumes within the MCU. Here are some X-Men costumes that we would love to see represented in their original comic book aesthetic:
Rogue
Rogue would be a delight to see adapted correctly. More clearly, I’d love to see Anna Paquin’s Rogue, not the timid character from previous films, but an assured and mature Rogue in her yellow and green Jim Lee-designed costume. This iconic costume’s translatable appeal with minimal tweaks could totally see life on the big screen.
Mystique (Raven Darkholme)
Though Mystique has a really neat appearance on-screen, a return of the comic book Mystique in her iconic white outfit, featuring tiny gold skulls, would be a pleasant surprise. This attire, seen very briefly in X-Men: Apocalypse, is overdue for a dedicated showcase.
Ororo Munroe (Storm)
Though Halle Berry’s costume as Storm did parallel comic designs, the third Deadpool installment might shine in showcasing Storm’s 90’s attire, again, designed by Jim Lee. With the yellow accents and the symbolic red X on the shoulders, this outfit could be a visually stunning addition to the film.

Scott Summers (Cyclops)
Scott Summers has sported an extensive array of costumes in the comic series. A standout choice for future appearances could be his iconic 90’s costume designed by Jim Lee, showcased in X-Men: The Animated Series. A more accurate color scheme than the version worn by Tye Sheridan in X-Men: Apocalypse would bring Scott Summers much more life and vibrance that matches its comic counterpart.
Piotr Rasputin (Colossus)
With confirmed casting in Deadpool 3, Colossus could finally swap his black and red costume for the comic-accurate red and yellow. An Astonishing X-Men-inspired costume for Colossus would be a harmonious match to Wolverine’s new attire, as both find their roots in the same series.
Jean Grey (Phoenix)
A version of Famke Janssen’s perfect Jean totally in control of the Phoenix Force garbed in her New X-Men era outfit, could deliver a visually appealing, practical, and comic-true representation. It would also make me personally very, very happy. Having a version that looks back at her classic Phoenix aesthetic while foreshadowing a more empowered character would really deepen her character and what she can really do with her powers.
Talking about the possibility of seeing our favorite X-Men in their iconic comic book costumes fills us fans with anticipation for a sequel that potentially marries film aesthetics with comic book authenticity, setting a compelling precedent for future Marvel films.
Will Deadpool 3 live up to this hype? Only time will tell.
