David Corenswet is officially the new Superman and with a new actor, some changes are also in the horizon including the tone of the Man of Steel it seems.

This is a resounding dream come true for Corenswet who, as early as 2019 while promoting his supporting role in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood, had unabashedly revealed to Entertainment Weekly that his highest acting aspiration was “definitely to play Superman”.

Fast-forward four years later to today, and see his dreams taking flight. Ever since Corenswet first graced our screens, his uncanny resemblance to Henry Cavill, who embodied the Man of Steel in four Zack Snyder-directed movies, has not gone unnoticed. Much like the wholesome sense of humor that Superman possesses, Corenswet felt the pulse of these comparisons even before the internet started buzzing with theories.

Confidence twinkling in his eyes, Corenswet candidly shared, “It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me. But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman.” Indeed, the actor’s vision seems to line up perfectly with his newly bestowed role. Evidently, an admirer of Cavill’s darker, grittier Superman, Corenswet aims to paint the skies blue with his bright and optimistic take on the venerated hero.

How drastic is the difference for this new Superman?

His breezy, positive portrayal of Superman presents a breath of fresh air that is, as many say, a beckoning light in the cinematic cosmos. Certainly, an “upbeat” and “optimistic” Superman is a new dawn for the fans. It resonates with James Gunn’s notion for Superman: Legacy— with humanity and hope cradled gently in the hands of an alien, radiating kindness and compassion that positively invites us in for a warm hug.

This new portrayal of Superman shows a departure from Cavill’s brooding depiction – a symbol of Zack Snyder’s DC Universe that includes Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm of DC Studios, they’ve taken on the task of refurbishing the DC universe, centering it around a younger, fresh-faced Superman in the form of Corenswet. Superman: Legacy, pegged for release on July 11, 2025, is an unprecedented milestone for Corenswet, marking the most significant project of his career to date.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Superman: Legacy, fans and movie-goers alike find themselves awaiting this fresh narrative eagerly. The legacy of Superman continues, revitalized in a new-age rendition marked by warmth, optimism, and gleaming hope – much like a sunrise on a new day. It is a fitting legacy for a new Superman and a world ready for a bit of brightness. And undoubtedly, Corenswet seems eager to soar into it.
