In terms of the story, Marvel Studios Secret Invasion hasn’t taken much from the source material. The Marvel Comic event started years before the actual crossover. Because of that, there wasn’t enough time to do the show like the source material. However, other things like some of the Skrulls’ names, keeping the humans they replace, and wanting Earth for their own are all part of the Marvel Comics continuity. A more important moment came at the beginning of episode 3 when Gravik mentions superpowers.

Gravik says that the Skrulls need powers to continue their war. He then calls these Skrulls a kind of Super Skrull. This hints at a major plot in Marvel Comics Secret Invasion. Infiltrating organizations on Earth was a brilliant move. But their shape-shifting isn’t enough to take on the world. That’s why they’ve been collecting DNA from multiple sources like Groot and the Exremis (watching Iron Man 3 for more on that). They’re using the abilities of other beings to create the Super Skrull.

Bringing the Super Skrulls in early in the series is a great idea. Hopefully, this won’t fall apart in the end.

"“Nobody calls me ‘Nick’, Bob.”-Nick Fury"

At the end of the episode, Nick Fury’s wife Varra leaves their home, goes to a safe deposit box, and gets her gun. While there, she gets a call from a voice sounding just like James Rhodes (confirmed by his credit on IMDb). Varra says she wants to speak to Gravik. The voice says, “Well, you’re talking to me.” Does this mean Rhodey is actually a Skrull, is he working with the Skrulls, or is he deep undercover? If it’s the latter, don’t be shocked if Rhodes’ conversation with Fury (Secret Invasion episode 2) was full of code words and phrases.

Also, what’s up with Varra? She was been secretive the entire episode. It may look like she’s working for Gravik, but, as we’ve seen throughout Secret Invasion, you can’t trust everything you see. Just like this writer believes that G’iah isn’t dead. no matter what you believe, viewers will have to wait for episode 4 to find out what’s next.
