Twilight is the best movie of the franchise. There’s really no debate, in my opinion, about which of the Twilight movies is the best. It has to be Twilight, the first movie of the franchise, and, I think Twilight is the best movie for so many reasons.

Overall, the story is so much simpler at the beginning of The Twilight Saga. Bella Swan moves to Forks, Washington, and grows intrigued by Edward Cullen before learning Edward is a vampire. Edward and the rest of the Cullens, then, must protect Bella and the rest of the community from bad vampires who like to kill humans. Bella and Edward try to deal with their feeling for each other. That’s the story for the most part, and it works well.

From there, the story gets wonky as more vampires are added to the mix, the love triangle between Bella, Jacob, and Edward develops, the baby, and there’s the whole problem with the Volturi.

That first movie, though, is smaller stakes and that works so well. It helps the story, and it makes sense for viewers. As soon as the franchise starts introducing a lot more of those bigger elements, the stakes get higher, but our experience as an audience is dimmed. The story just doesn’t improve, which is not exclusive to Twilight. This happens with so many movie franchises.
