The SAG Strike will have a major impact on the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con event. Here are all the ways SDCC will be affected by the strike.

Every July, San Diego Comic-Con captures the hearts and imaginations of fans worldwide, leaving them eagerly counting down the days until the annual pop culture convention.

While there is a lot to enjoy about the event, it is the legendary panels that truly set Comic-Con apart from the crowd. These exclusive panels offer fans exciting insights into their favorite shows and movies with sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes stories, and exciting announcements about the upcoming season or theatrical releases.

There’s no telling what exciting reveals will be made at SDCC as the event has been known as one of the biggest pop culture moments of the year. The event is particularly exciting for superhero fans with the likes of Marvel and DC Studios using Comic-Con to announce new projects, major casting news, and drop long-awaited teasers that leave fans talking for days.

Since 2019, SDCC hasn’t quite been the same, though. There was no SDCC in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2021, the event went virtual with Comic-Con@Home before returning with a smaller event in 2022.

For many, there was a hope that 2023 would be the year that Comic-Con would finally return to its former glory. Then came the unexpected Hollywood strikes.

Is San Diego Comic-Con 2023 canceled?

Here’s the good news, SDCC 2023 is not canceled. It’s just going to look a little different this year due to the ongoing WGA strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike which began on July 13. Due to the strike, writers and actors will not be able to attend the event to promote their work in television and movies. This means there will be fewer panels than normal and that many studios will be skipping the event entirely.

When is San Diego Comic-Con 2023?

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con will take place from July 20 through July 23, with Preview Night on July 19. If you’re heading out to SDCC, here is the schedule for the year with information on the hours for each day:

  • Wednesday (Preview Night), July 19: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Thursday, July 20:  9:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Friday, July 21: 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Saturday, July 22: 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Sunday, July 23: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Will there be a Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2023?

Typically, Marvel Studios makes one of the biggest splashes at San Diego Comic-Con with its Hall H panel. Just last year, Marvel announced a wave of projects including a number of shows and movies that had the internet buzzing. Unfortunately, Marvel is one of a handful of studios that will be skipping the event this July.

While Marvel Studios will not be holding a Hall H panel, Marvel will still have a booth on the convention floor.

What studios are skipping Comic-Con this year? (2023)

Marvel Studios, sadly, is not the only studio that is skipping this year’s event. While there will be some studios such as Marvel which will have a presence on the show floor, the following studios have all announced they will not be hosting a panel at this year’s event:

  • Marvel Studios
  • Lucasfilm
  • Disney
  • HBO
  • Sony Pictures
  • Netflix
  • NBC
