Marvel Comics: Wolverine’s 16 best and worst costumes graded
By Mark Lynch
7. Asgardian Armor
Without trying to be too harsh, this wasn’t a good look. Logan was fitted with Asgardian armor that resembled something out of the Knights of the Round Table. Except there were random spikes around him (for attacking purposes that he never used). Then, in the middle of the armor, there were orange swirls. Everything about this is confusing. This should never be used again. Not even as an alternate skin on a video game. It’s that bad.
Grade: F
6. Brown and yellow
In Uncanny X-Men No. 139, Logan debuted his brown and yellow costume. When Nightcrawler asked why he changed the color, Wolverine simply said, “Why not?” Wolverine wasn’t known as a man of many words back then (he talks a lot more now, believe it or not). This made his two-word answer expected.
Logan’s brown and yellow is the only color scheme that can compete with the original. It’s also the one he currently uses. With Laura also being Wolverine, a distinction had to be made. Going back to the brown made sense. It’s recognizable and people love it.
There are two differences. First, the red belt and buckle were replaced. There’s just a belt with an “X” on it. Since he’s not using the belt to hold his pants up, the buckle never made sense. Another change is the gloves. They have pads that are likely used to block blades. Logan may have a healing factor and unbreakable claws, but extra protection can’t hurt.
