Stranger Things: “The Lost Sister” (Season 2, episode 7)

You knew this one had to be included in the list, right? It’s everyone’s least favorite episode of Stranger Things. The season 2 episode “The Lost Sister” is a standalone, following Eleven’s journey to find her “sister,” Kali. The writers tried to do something different with this one, and I appreciate the effort, but it just didn’t work, unfortunately.

Exploring a new setting and a new group of characters, the episode provides insight into Eleven’s personal growth but is so different in tone, it’s jarring. The lack of connection to the main storyline is distracting, and the portrayal of Kali and her group is a bit cringe-worthy. This is the only episode of the whole show I can’t ever rewatch.

“The Mind Flayer” (Season 2, Episode 8)

The second season of Stranger Things hits a crucial point in its penultimate episode, “The Mind Flayer.” Here, the Mind Flayer’s influence over Will continues to grow stronger, forcing the group to act fast to try and save him. As the characters work together, they devise a plan to trap the monster, but of course, they face several obstacles along the way. Sadly, this episode sees Bob Newby dying, which is heartbreaking.

The tension and action throughout the episode are awesome, setting up the big conclusion to the second season. The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been, and it’s impossible to look away from all of the intense moments.
