4. Supergirl Season 1, Episode 12: Bizarro
In this episode, Supergirl borrows from the well-known comic book nemesis of Superman, Bizzaro. We got a captivating storyline with Kara confronting a doppelgänger (won’t be the last time for this series) created by the unsettling villain Maxwell Lord.
Ah, Maxxwell Lord, Remember him, the big bad for Supergirl during the CBS version? Neither do most people. With his perfectly coiffed hair and his lackluster schemes At times Lord felt like a discount Lex Luthor trying to make a name for himself, but he did in this episode.
Max’s realistic nature, devoid of superpowers, makes him all the more chilling. His experiments on comatose women result in the creation of Bizarro, a Supergirl look-alike with manipulated beliefs.
One of the most compelling aspects of this episode was the manipulative and dehumanizing language used by Max towards Bizarro, reflecting the tactics of an abuser. Kara and Hank share the same sentiment and take action to stop Max, with Alex using her DEO position to arrest him.
From the chaos rose Jimmy, the underrated beacon of light. Captured by Bizarro to manipulate Kara, we got a gift that was Jimmy revealing his true feelings for Kara. Then we got Kara, torn between her connection with Jimmy and her blossoming emotions for Adam, she chooses to protect her loved ones by distancing herself.
As the episode concluded, with questions about the future of Kara’s relationships. Will Adam return? Does Jimmy have a chance? Meanwhile, the professional relationship between Kara and Cat adds another layer of complexity. It was the best episode of season one, so it made its way into the Top 5.
