X-Men: The Quiet Council of Krakoa is disbanding
By Mark Lynch
Before the X-Men: Fall of X, the Quiet Council disbands and decides to vote for a new council during the Hellfire Gala.
In Immortal X-Men No. 13, Doug Ramsey tells Xavier that he and the Quiet Council are slowly killing Krakoa. Their decisions have made most of the mutants on the Krakoa unhappy. Since Krakoa feeds off its inhabitant’s emotions, it’s making them (Krakoa) get sick. This forces Xavier to have a real look at himself, what he’s done, and the Quiet Council as a whole.
After his meeting, Xavier says that the Quiet Council has failed. Kate Pryde says the Quiet Council will announce their disbandment at this year’s Hellfire Gala. After some debate (and anger from Sebastian Shaw and Destiny) the idea of breaking up the council was put to a vote. The vote to disband was passed. Doug thanks everyone for agreeing, then something strange happens. Krakoa drags Doug into The Pit. When asked why, Krakoa says, “I must protect him.” What they’re protecting him from remains to be seen.
Most of Krakoa’s issues can be traced back to the Quiet Council. For example, Sabretooth would still be in The Pit if he was properly supervised. Maybe he should have been given a second chance since the law wasn’t in place yet.
The most recent difficulty came from Mr. Sinister destroying humanity (X-Men: Sins of Sinister). He’s directly the council’s fault. They knew Sinister was up to something and did nothing about it. There’s also Xavier and Magneto keeping secrets, Colossus being controlled by his brother, and so many other things that didn’t help either.
In all honesty, the Quiet Council was doomed from its conception.
