James Gunn gives disappointing Guardians 3 Disney Plus release update

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Guardians 3 arrival on Disney Plus, but James Gunn’s latest update suggests we might have a long wait still ahead.

As the closing chapter to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings closure to the epic story of the Guardians story as told by director James Gunn. Without giving any spoilers away for those who haven’t yet had the chance to watch the movie, let’s just say the movie ties a perfect bow on the franchise while still leaving the door open for potential returns in the future.

From the moment Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opened in theaters this May, fans have been eagerly waiting for the chance to relive the film again from the comfort of their home on Disney Plus. However, the wait has proven to be longer than anticipated.

Is Guardians 3 on Disney Plus?

As of July 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 has not yet arrived on Disney Plus and unfortunately, it could be a while before the movie is available to stream on the platform.

When asked by a fan on Instagram when the film would be coming to Disney’s streaming platform, James Gunn revealed that it would not be coming to Disney Plus for “a little while.”  Although Gunn did not elaborate, his remark suggests the wait is going to continue for at least a few weeks.

When might Guardians 3 be coming to Disney Plus?

As of the current information available, it is highly likely that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on Disney Plus in August 2023. The release date is based on the historical pattern of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies appearing on the streaming platform.

In the past, MCU films typically arrived on Disney Plus around 60 days after their theatrical release. The theatrical release window for these movies ranged from approximately 45 to 70 days. However, over time, this release window has been extended, and more recent MCU films have taken closer to 90 days after their initial cinematic debut to become available on the streaming service.

Given this trend, it’s reasonable to expect that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will follow a similar release pattern hinting at a possible release date in the first week of August.
