13 best Nicolas Cage movies ranked from ridiculous to really great
8. Moonstruck
Moonstruck is a unique one on this list because it’s definitely great, but in some moments it’s also a bit ridiculous. Nicolas Cage brings his signature acting style to his performance as Ronny Cammareri, which is incredibly silly but also charming. The 1987 movie stars Cher as a widow named Loretta living in Brooklyn, New York, who gets engaged to her boyfriend and subsequently falls for his brother.
Ronny is a passionate and intense baker with a fake hand, and when he meets Loretta, the sparks fly. The movie was applauded for its performances and the way it tackles subjects like love and loss, and Cher and Olympia Dukakis both received Academy Awards for their roles. The movie also won Best Original Screenplay.
VERDICT: Really Great
7. National Treasure
If you know Nic Cage, you have to know his now-iconic line in National Treasure: “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence.” Premiering in 2004, the kids’ movie from Disney is a family-friendly classic. I still remember going to see it with my parents and loving it! The movie follows treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates as he goes on a quest to uncover secrets in American history.
With the help of his friend and computer expert Riley Poole, along with archivist Dr. Abigail Chase, Benjamin must uncover a map on the back of the Declaration of Independence to successfully discover the National Treasure his family has been searching for. National Treasure was a box office success and while it received mixed reviews from critics, the movie spawned a sequel and a TV show.
National Treasure 3 is in development.
